David Craig: 3 services with a defined purpose

A useful assignment begins with the question that needs an answer. I review the concern and the information already available, then discuss the work needed to examine it. Scope, fees, access, travel, and scheduling are confirmed before the appointment. If records review is the appropriate first step, that can be considered before arranging a site visit.

The three services below share the same purpose: gather relevant information, describe it accurately, and explain what the evidence supports. The work requested determines the examination and the written deliverable. A brief conversation about a problem is different from an accepted inspection or expert engagement.

1. Inspection of the reported condition

I examine accessible flooring areas related to the reported concern and document the condition with photographs and relevant measurements. Wider photographs identify the room or area. Close views show the detail being discussed. Locations and surrounding conditions help connect the photographs to the actual floor.

The work may involve hardwood gaps, movement or finish concerns; rigid-core cracking, damaged edges or open joints; or tile height differences, cracks and grout concerns. Testing is selected for the material and the question being investigated. Measurements describe the conditions at the time and location where they were taken.

2. Consulting and records review

Some assignments begin with an existing report, product information, installation records, photographs, or a proposed repair. I review the available material against the question being asked and identify what can be addressed from those records. If additional observations or testing are needed, that becomes part of the scope discussion.

A clear timeline helps: when the floor was installed, when the condition first appeared, how it changed, and what has already been done. Information supplied by a party is identified as history. Observations made during the inspection are recorded separately. Keeping those sources clear makes the analysis easier to follow.

3. California expert witness work

For California flooring matters, an assignment may include records review, site inspection, technical research, report preparation, consultation, or testimony. The parties, property, requested opinions, deadlines, and available evidence are reviewed before an expert engagement is accepted.

The analysis explains the evidence considered and the limitations of the work. Acceptance of an assignment does not promise a particular opinion or result. Please provide only the basic inquiry details initially and wait for conflict review and transmission instructions before sending confidential records.

Training and industry background

The CFIU July 2018 course record lists David Craig as completing the Advanced Ceramic Tile and Hardwood Flooring Inspector Training and Certification Course. Floor Detective also lists David Craig, Floor Claim, among its contributors. These source records describe the training and contribution they document.

The training and industry background page explains how to review those records in relation to an assignment. If specific qualifications or an updated curriculum vitae are required for your matter, include that request when discussing the scope.

Where inspections are arranged

Inspections are arranged in Northern California, Reno, Lake Tahoe, and Las Vegas, subject to availability and travel confirmation. Expert witness services are focused on California. Inspections take place at the property; the business mailing address is not an office for client visits.
